So, tomorrow I'm making a video where I list all of my buddies who are doing a word count challenge in November and congratulate them on their word counts so far. Would either or you guys like to be in the video?
I dont think I should, since I started before November.... but if that doesnt matter, then sure! I'd be down!
Cave Stars-- day 7-- 747 words (so far; im taking a break, but wanted to record it just in case I didnt come back to it)
It does not matter at all! You still wrote the words. It still counts. Do you know what your total word count for your project is? And great job on 747 words!
Day 6: TLDW: Villains -- Day 6 -- 471 words Didn't do so good today but I got a decent head start in the first few days, so that's okay!
Day 7: TDLW: Villains -- Day 7 -- 4,319 words So proud of myself, I think that's probably the most words I've ever written in a day. J. T. Woody, your congratulations comes at 6:15! And, of course, a huge congratulations to Big Soft Moose too. If anybody would like to be part of the next Writing Buddies update video, just let me know!
That's amazing! You are so far ahead it's ridiculous! Also awesome! You have been doing an amazing job with keeping up with a steady progress.
Now 29,742. i was trying to get to 30k tonight and didn't quite make it, that's 5169 tonight... This has been titleless so far but Ive settled on 'The Boatman's Code'... The Lifeboatman's code says that if the call for help comes you have to go no matter how dangerous it is. Nuts is a lifeboat volunteer and there are some hairy rescues in the book but its its also analogous to how he lives the rest of his life 'if someone asks for help he has to respond regardless of the danger or risk' This is the second one in the series - the first being Return To Zero, which is the name of his yacht as well as being descriptive of starting over in his fucked up life as covered in that book these books are on the long side, RTZ was about 125k although i expect it to come down to more like 100k with editing so TBC target length is also in that ballpark
Cave Stars -- Day 8-- 712 words (it was a slow writing day, but busy work day!) 4,319!? Awesome! (and thank you, lol )
Oh wow, that's amazing! Can't believe you're almost at 30K already! ... I totally, definitely did not read that as "titless" because I am extremely sophisticated and mature. But the story sounds really interesting and I love the title. How many books are you planning for the series? You are very, very welcome! Thank you for setting up this word count tracker! It helps to keep me motivated, even if its just the three of us in here.
TDLW: Villains -- Day 8 -- 1,428 words My week off work is over and I had my first day back today. Not nearly so much free time for writing and I expect my word count to plummet dramatically... So, I have decided to quit my job and just write all day instead! I shall forgo trivial things like food and rent and just live off happy writing vibes instead! (... Should probably throw in here that this is sarcasm. Nobody do this. It is not a good idea.)
33728 so far, so that's 3986 today Series wise its hard to say - i like to at least have a trilogy so i can do an omnibus edition the Bolt books take place in the same universe as various of my other books, although they stand alone with only a cross over of minor characters. the Croc PI series (22 of them) - Croc is a criminal turned Private Eye, think like Spenser for Hire but British Max Maxwell spin off (Max is Crocs half brother although he doesn't find that out til book 5), 13 of them so far. Max is a countryside manager which is what i used to do so the books cover both countryside adventures and PI. The Jake Rippon books 6 so far... more hard boiled than the others less Spenser for hire and more Nick Sharman. Jake used to be an assassin for the ulster defenders, when hes framed for killing his lover in book 1 he has to clear his name... and that leads to him becoming a PI. Red Redmayne trilogy (The Wheelman, The Fixer, The Operator) Red is an unreconstructed criminal, who never the less does good things from time to time while also pulling off heists. Kind of Danny Ocean but in the Uk I was going to self publish all of the above starting with the Croc books, but after getting a deal on my unrelated fantasy trilogy, my agent says she thinks she can sell Croc (etc) so i'm holding off going self with that just yet
OMG, how many books have you written? You're like Stephen King or Brandon Sanderson or something! You write more books than most people read!
TDLW: Villains -- Day 9 -- 1,620 words Hit 20K today! Got myself some really nice choccies as a reward.
Written about 40 Self published 8 (6 novels two novellas) Trad published 1 which should be out next year (with strong interest in 2 more if the first does well) The reasons the figures are so out of scale is that i stopped self publishing during covid because i didnt have the headspace, but kept writing...then i got the trad deal so I didn't restart self while my agent and i sort out what else she thinks she can sell ETA 37318 so 3590 tonight
40 books? Bloody hell! That's amazing! And here was me feeling so proud of myself as I'm working on my first draft of my first non-interactive fiction novel where I've ever written any further than chapter 5. What's the book coming out next year called?
TDLW: Villains -- Day 10 -- 1,230 words Went to a writing festival this morning. Listened to a couple of seminars. Found out about a group that does writing sprints close to where I live. It was awesome!
40048 = 2730 tonight the book thats got a trad deal was to be called Dark Fire, but i'm talking with the publisher as thats already the name of a fairly well known book by C J Sansom so they are thinking about changing it
TLDW: Villains -- Day 11 -- 2,486 words Today I am playing the extremely fun and wholesome game of, "Which One of my Beloved Characters am I Going to Brutally and Mercilessly Kill Off?" Originally, I had a character in mind that I was planning on killing off at the end of book one, but the more I think about it, the more I think this character has a lot more story to tell and a lot of potential to grow and develop, so I don't want to kill them off just yet. But, for plot reasons, and to establish a grimdark tone, I do want to kill off one of my main characters by the end of the novel... So that means carefully considering all of my characters and deciding which one to go Old Yeller on. It's really hard! I'm considering coming up with a brand new character just so that I have somebody to kill off.
