Maybe not entirely inexplicable, more hard to translate. Having finished 1984 on Spotify, I looked for whatever books might be available. Most require purchase, but did find a series recently done on Irish radio (RTE 1), Drama on 1, Beckett Season. In reverse order, the podcast (?) eventually arrived at episode 1 and "Watt", performed by Barry McGovern. Given its geographic specs, it may not be available outside this side of Western Europe, which is a pity because it is such a culmination of voice, actor and writing that is mind blowing. Like a perfect musical arrangement, so much so that, having reached the end, I went back to the start and, having reached the end again, went back to the start again. And when I reach the end again... If anyone is 1. interested and 2. finds it, I'd be interested to hear views.
Last week, I had a really good walking day. I normally struggle to walk more than a city block or so without resting, since I have one leg and my knee on the other leg is slightly misaligned. But on one of my last few days in Japan, I was able to walk from one side of Akihabara (which is about 4 blocks) without stopping, and could still walk about afterwards. And most of the rest of the day was like that as well. I barely had to ever stop to sit down and rest, and when I did, just like, a minute or so was enough. I paid for it afterwards though - I was cramping like mad that evening.
Speaking of walking ... last week I went to Sydney (had a concert to perform in, with Andrea Bocelli and a few others). Most of the time I was there, I walked like mad. The day before flying out (Tuesday): 7,000 steps Wednesday: 15,750 steps Thursday: 8,000 steps Friday: 9,000 steps And today I rested and took it easy, with "only" 3,500 steps. I'm not a rabid walker, and usually average about 5,000 to 5,500 steps per day. So I was gratified to be able to walk so much. (I paid for it later with sore feet and such, but recovered now). Yay for small victories.
Back when I worked on the floor, 15K was my average. I had one job as an expo/manager in a giant German style beer hall that could get me as high as 25K on a double. Needless to say I was about 25# lighter then.
I never counted steps, but this reminds me of when I was working as a teacher. I always applied for the 4.5/5 - which means you have your income for 4.5 years spread over 5 years, and then have an entire semester off. It never failed that during my semester off, I would gain ten pounds, without changing what I ate. Then, when I went back to work, again, without changing what I ate, the ten pounds would just melt off. I think it is because I was on my feet all day, and did a lot of walking back and forth to the office!
I usually get in my 10k by the end of my teaching day, but I'm one of those pacing teachers. Kinda like Darth Maul.
I get 10,000 at work on a busy day and then run 4 miles afterward on the tred. I'm pretty bushed after that, however.
No problem. I've always worked in an office, which obviously doesn't involve a lot of walking. *hands Iain a maul ... only for use on badly-behaved kids, mwa-ha-ha*
Ooo, look at you all with your "steps". Seriously though, on a good day, I might manage 2000 half-steps.
I've never done the Texas Two-step, but on a good day, I could manage a Tiger Two-Step. Take your partner by the paw, Beat him down and he'll say "D'oh!"
About one more month until my university finishes for the semester. This year has been so very hard for a variety of reasons that aren't even related to my university. I questioned whether I would get through at all several times. I still am. There is one more month until my final deadlines, however, and all I can do is try my best. I went through the first semester. I can get through the second. I'm so looking forward to getting this done. It'll be such a big relief, and I'll be able to relax a little bit. I've built a reading list I'm really looking forward to. There is still so much to do. But I can get it finished by May 10th. I hope so, anyway...
We added a new member to our household today. Meet Ace of Basse, called Basse. A one year old Aussie who was in need of a home through no fault of his own. He needs time and training, but has huge potential.
How absolutely adorable. I'd love to give him a hug. (But I won't, because hugs freak dogs out. I might simply make friends by holding out my hand and letting him get used to me first). Incidentally, what is an "Aussie" dog? Basse looks like an Australian Shepherd. And is it common for them to have different-coloured eyes? I note Basse has one brown eye and one blue eye. Thanks.
Both Marlowe and Basse are Australian Shepherds (minis). Marlowe will be two in June and Basse is just a year.
Did singing lessons today and got suggested a song with a D6! I am so excited to sing this!! Because it will be my highest note EVER. My current song is Think of Me from Phantom and it's a A#5. I know I can do this song! Because I have been able to do exercises up to D#6. AHH!! I am so excited.
Yikes! A D6 is incredibly high. Well done, Gravy! I'm a baritone-bass, and after years and years of trying, I managed to hit and sustain a D2. I'm rather chuffed about that. I tested myself and I can go as high as F4 naturally. If I use my falsetto, I can go much further up, but I haven't tried testing that.
Thank you!! It feels amazing to sing that high. Wow, that’s so cool! You should record and share it. I would love to hear it. Again, very impressive. How high can you go in head voice?
