Remember that it's been aeons since we've actually sat down to write a new story; in our case, editing and injecting new bits into an existing piece is much slower than starting with a blank canvas. If we did start a new story, we'd have a lot planned already, and if we started on a weekend or holiday, we'd probably reach 60k in... well, it'd be measured in days, not weeks, but I can't give a more accurate estimate. We could do a count after we move on to the next story once we finish the current WIP. At least in the name of useless information if nothing else.
I'm at the 10k mark after a couple of months. That's included a lot of planning and mixed up with quite a bit of reading as well. I aim for between 500 words and 1k a day. Though I'm trying to bump that up as I get more into the story. I don't really do a 1st draft, and I won't do a 2nd draft. I just constantly polish and refine it as I go along. I honestly believe that's what most writers would have done in the 19th century if they'd have had a computer and Word. I'm coming back to writing after a break of many years. In my first attempts, I twice pumped out 70k drafts of a novel in six weeks, with another 6 weeks of revising each time. I'm rather dubious about their quality though and think I'd be pretty horrified if I ventured to dig out the floppy disc they're on and read them.
