God damn it! You beat me to it. I've just been told about this and it depressed me. She had a real singing talent. It's just a shame what that lead to. I'm not shocked though, the way her life was going - clearly something awful was going to happen.
We had tickets to see her in Istanbul last month. It was pretty expensive travelling up there and we didn't get news until noon the day of the concert that it was cancelled. I wasn't best pleased, but I'm sorry now for my bad thoughts about her as she was clearly ill. It makes me remember the ending of Bette Midler's The Rose when I see the video of her last concert in Serbia. Very sad to see talent self destruct so spectacularly. Quite a few other stars have burnt out at 27--I think Kurt Cobain and Jimmi Hendrix among them?
He was a drug addict and part time singer. She was a pretty good singer too, and apparently a pretty good drug addict.
I used to live in the same village as some of her family members. The apple didnt fall far from the tree.
A sad thing she died... but im not sure how exactly, she literally just died this morning didn't she?
We all knew it was gonna happen...It's such a shame. She had real musical talent. Let that be a lesson to everyone - go and get help if you can. She wasted her opportunities, don't waste yours. It was more a case of "when" rather than "if" for her. She was too self-destructive.
Found out about it today while watching Razorlight live...they dedicated a song to her which was nice. Everyone was pretty shocked when they heard it.
I hadn't heard about her death. I'd be lying if I said I was surprised, though. She was a train wreck in slow motion.
Probably should have gone to rehab. What too soon? Sorry, but I also don't think it's sad if a 400 lbs man dies of a heart-attack.
It is very sad that Amy Whinehouse died at such a young age. No matter what the problems or issues, in my eyes, nobody deserves to die too young. As the shocking factor goes, I was not a bit shocked, I actually saw it coming. Lets look on the bright side though, at least she isn't going through anymore hard times. She is now at rest.
Heard of it several hours ago and it's very sad to me, even though I'm no fan of her work. But anyone who says that this comes as a shock obviously hasn't heard much of Amy Winehouse. She was using several drugs and drinking excessively. I wouldn't be surprised if I hear that Charlie Sheen is next to pass on. Some celebrities make it, others don't. It depends on how they're raised and how they handle the stress of living under the ever watchful eye of a judgmental society.
I hate to say it, but I had been waiting for the news for some time. She had been a wreck for long time thanks to drugs and alcohol, and it didn't seem like she was finding her way out of it. But although I wasn't surprised she died, I do think it was a tragedy that she went down that path in the first place, and especially that she never found her way out of it. And much as I hate to say it, the news was a bit overshadowed here in Norway due to the other tragedy. I barely noticed her death at first, in fact.
