What Type of Musician Are You? What sounds do you produce?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Bobby Burrows, Mar 8, 2019.

    Musicians!
    Hey!!!

It's your friend here Bobby Burrows.

    How are you?

As musicians (either card carrying or not), we listen to all genres of music, like all types (unless there's a genre we don't particularly enjoy), we listen to music, doesn't necessarily mean it's the music we produce, are paid to do, that we play.

So, what type of musician are you?
And if you want, what songs do you like? (Any genre)
'What sound are you?' What's your sound?

Of course, having a sound, being a genre (I guess), this doesn't mean you have to stick to your own genre.
Why not have your sound infused with another sound for a hot fusion if one musician sounds like this and another sounds like that?..

What type of musician are you?

    I'm a rock guitarist.

Even though I like to listen to and even play songs from any genre, playing this is still me playing them, so, it's my sound or whatever.

Playing different songs, I'm thinking, some songs work better than others for me too.
So, singing is a good way to choose what songs you want to cover too, for me.
    - and the best way to find out what works is to go out and sing them/play them on guitar and sing them.

I played a mean recorder in elementary school. I taught myself how to play the theme song from Free Willy, well the very first lyrical bit from Michael Jackson - Will You be There, which I played over and over and over because I was SO PROUD.

I can still hear it in my head.
    Hold me
    Like the River Jordan
And I will then say to thee
    You are my friend

I was like Kenny G with my recorder. Or maybe more like that saxophone guy who is in every 80s movie.

Yeah, my influences (and I have some) include artists in my scope of sounds I come out with (how I sound)...

    and...

I would say I'm influenced by UK Garage, Grime and Gangster Rap as well as 'that sound' I produce/come out with.

I listen to a ton of genres (mostly punk rock and grunge), but since I'm likely getting an acoustic guitar for my birthday, I've started writing songs for it. I've been singing for as long as I can remember, and been writing lyrics consistently for probably three years. I also make/used to make ambient tracks with a midi synthesizer.

Here's the first song I want to cover on my guitar
