Ritchie Havens dead at 72. Everyone knows the Freedom song he played at Woodstock. But I like the lyrics to Fates. The only place I can find Fates online is on the album sample playlist and all you get is a couple bars.
His opening performance at Woodstock was electrifying (even though it was all acoustic). He was a riveting performer. He did a jaw-dropping version of Bob Dylan's "Just Like a Woman." R.I.P., Mr. Havens. Thanks for your music.
72 is young when you consider only a couple years earlier he did this performance of Jackson Brown's Lives in the Balance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrIDWnLQyYQ
To me, it's not so much about how many years one lives, but rather did he or she enjoy most of those years.
