What are your New Year's Resolutions (2025 Edition)

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Gravy, Dec 21, 2024.

Mine is to not look at the news. Plain and simple, but really, really hard.
Also, I want to read more.

I'm planning to avoid any mention of American politics. Please. I'm begging the news here to stop mentioning that, thanks.

I'm not planning to read more. I'm already reading enough.

I'm planning to finish my 9th book and get started on planning (if not writing) my 10th. Don't have a setting in mind yet. Medieval Iceland (my current setting) is already more than enough.

Yep, with you on that :) It is hard.

My New Year's resolutions for 2025 are only extensions of the goals I set earlier this year.
    Refrain from eating ultra-processed foods.
Continue with the diet and exercise routine, which ties in with the above
Research and cook one new recipe a week and post the results to my blog.
    -
    Restart Portuguese lessons
    -
Finish Dreams and attempt to write some short stories.
    Medieval Iceland sounds challenging.

A year ago, mine was "If I see someone in public I know, I shall go out of my way to say hi to them."

This year I'm thinking of doing the opposite.

But today, I also think I am giving up fantasy football in 2025.

I was in 5 leagues this year. This is a sickness.

    Send help.

It is. It took me nearly a year to wrap my head around it and draw up a plan, because I had to keep heading back and redraft it.

I only picked Medieval Iceland (and early medieval, at that) because anywhere else, and anything later than about 1,000 AD, and I would lose all that lovely, fascinating Norse mythology. You know - Thor and Loki, and all that crowd. ;)

I wish my husband would do the same. He moans about the hours I spend sitting in front of the computer writing 'Dreams' but forgets the hours HE spends on Fantasy Football.

Whenever I win a league, I buy a tangible item for the house we can both enjoy. 58 inch screen TV? Big ol' coffee table? Both came from fantasy winnings. Would that help? Is he even playing for substantial $? Or just a cartoon trophy and bragging rights?:D

But you're right. He's gotta at LEAST leave you be to do as you please with your time if he's gonna play what is tantamount to Dungeons and Dragons for jocks.

You have an excuse. There is a lot of money to be won, but not by him. Hubs plays with his heart and not with his head. :)

I am going to go with the same resolution I have used for years. That is to not make resolutions.

New Year's Resolutions now permanently remind me of that short story contest we had here about two years ago. I consider the entry to it my worst written story to-date, lol. At least I learned... I also learned about Fantasy Football from this thread. Who knew that such a thing existed?

Resolutions? The last resolution I made was to never drink water with food again. I succeeded! Now I don't know what to do next. I'll have to think about it.

This reminds me of when I gave up Lent for Lent.

Lol, clever. But I'm not an alcohol person. It's something I've resolved to never drink since I was a kid, and so far, I've been successful there as well.

Fun fact: I know a family that drinks raw goat milk with their food. Raw goat milk that comes straight from their backyard every day. That stuff looked... extremely creamy. I was offered some plenty of times but politely explained that raw milk scares me. And they respected that so all was good :)
