    Terrorism

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by chicagoliz, Apr 15, 2013.

I'm so sad to sit here and watch coverage of the aftermath of the two explosions at the Boston Marathon. When I was a kid, here in the U.S., the go to assumption and first thought would not have been terrorism. I'm sad that my kids grow up in a world where this type of stuff seems to happen with greater frequency. And I realize that we in the U.S. were shielded from this for longer than were many other folks.
    *sigh*

Oh, wow. I didn't even know this happened until I read your post. Are they certain it's a terrorist attack?

Not for certain, but apparently it looks like it was an IED. We don't know for sure, but it's sad that it's even the first assumption.

At least 2 explosions so I think it is. Someone said they saw a loose backpack on the ground. You can never be sure for a few days given the news reports so much bad info in these events. The value of being first seems to trump the value of being right.

2 dead, 23 injured, and lots of cameras so it may be there will be pictures of the culprits at some point.

Now reporting 12 dead, up to 50 injured and they are still disarming bombs that didn't go off. Sad.

We know that these were 'explosive devices' that were hidden in trash cans. I'm not a betting man, but this is definately terrorism. Not sure whether foreign or domestic, but this was definately a premeditated attack.

We grew up with bombings on a daily basis in Ireland. There was a war on. A full scale war. It's sad to say we built up an immunity.

These people in Boston weren't targets, just innocents. Apart from the professional runners most were fun runners and charity runners.

God bless those that died in Boston, those that were injured and their families.

It seems that they have the defused bombs and surveillance footage of the person who planted them. I would bet we're gonna find the person responsible very quickly.

we have CNN here in France - it's pretty crap at updates, 2 dead, 28 injured, 3 bombs - 1 of which was detonated by the US bomb disposal people - the 3rd bomb was in the library - is this the latest?

...the bravery of these bombers astounds me

I saw some of the pictures of the aftermath. Jesus, it's horrible. I hope they catch the guy(s) who did it soon.

I also find it odd that a library would be targeted.

That strikes me as odd, as well. There was a mechanical fire at the JFK Library, too, but it did not appear suspicious and therefore seemed unrelated to the bombs. I wonder, though, if that sparked an idea in someone/some group to place bombs there as well? That is, I wonder if they got that idea to place bombs there, when they heard about this other fire, which for a while, they were trying to figure out whether it was related.

Of course, this is all just speculation.

There was a fourth one at a hotel entrance that was also detonated by a bomb squad.

Currently, they are saying two dead, and upwards of forty injured. There have been at least four devices, one of which was recovered unexploded and which is being dismantled for investigation.

I was at work, less than fifteen miles (probably under ten miles) from the finish line. I don't think I know any of the victims, but it is always possible.

    Cowardly shitheads.

the keyboard cop in me says it wasn't the work of a Mid East suicide bomber. I think such a terrorist would have it strapped to him, would walk out to the finish line in front of the cameras and detonate. Aparently the main explosion was in a restaurant with only innocents killed.

It doesn't sound like this is confirmed.

I first heard about this from a friend who posted on facebook, because his office window overlooks the finish line and he heard the first explosion, looked outside and saw the smoke, and then heard the second.

    Scary.

That's a lot of bombs for a terrorist attack. Thoughts and prayers to all affected.
