Post the name of the story (and the author) you'd like to read and discuss for the next Short Story Club in this thread. Make sure the story can be found for free online (at a legit source). That way, people don't have to worry about finding a copy. However, don't post a link to the story. Again, please only post the name of the story and the author. Please only nominate one story so that everyone has a chance to nominate something. Once we get enough nominations, I'll start a poll where everyone can vote on what story they want to read. Any genre is OK, but nothing with too much violence, etc. Make sure the story agrees with the site's policies.
I nominate 'Nuns at Luncheon' by Aldous Huxley. It's probably not available online, but it won't hurt you guys to go down the library. After all, you are meant to be writers, aren't you?

One of the reasons we have this rule is because not all libraries carry short story collections. So being able to find and read stories online ensures that anyone can participate.
'The Ghost with the Golden Casket' by Allan Cunningham. It's an old and obscure but very enjoyable short story. Thought I'd throw in something a little different. I'm sure you'll be able to find it online somewhere.
I do sympathize with what you're saying. But generally (in my experience) if a library hasn't got something in stock, they can order it in for you and it will be there within a few days. Perhaps I'm just being anglo-centric.
I think I go with half-a-sheet-of-foolscap by Strindberg again. The story about half a sheet of paper written on half a sheet of paper
"To Build a Fire" by Jack London "The Rocking-Horse Winner" by D.H. Lawrence I though I might as well nominate a couple of classics.
