    It's absolutely hideous!!!

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Torana, Oct 2, 2008.

Yesterday I noticed a strange sound...

So with any strange sound we hear, I decided to investigate. That is when I saw it! It was absolutely hideous, but really cute at the same time... is it possible??

I still think it is hideous though. It just looks so disgusting. I've seen many now, but this... it is just eugh!

Ok so you want to know what I'm talking about I guess... well I'm talking about a baby bird. I've seen baby birds of all kinds, from Magpies to Quails. But they all looked really cute. But not this baby bird....

IT IS HIDEOUS! It's a baby finch and just looks wrong! But it is still cute... in a really wrong kind of way I suppose. It's bigger than I thought it would be and has a few feathers, so I presum it is a few days old, to a week. I just didn't ever think I'd see a baby bird that looked so ugly.

Now I shall leave you all to hate me for thinking that this little baby finch looks so hideous and for me going on about it so much. :p :D

But the ugly duckling wasn't a duckling, so therefor can not be an ugly duckling!

I think watching them feed is really interesting, and yes, beautiful. They sound cute though!

Yep, a face only a mother could love. It's not an ugly duckling, but it's an ugly finch, so it will grow beautiful too.

Only puppies and kittens look cute when they are babies - most other things need to grow into their natural beauty.

I must agree baby birds are quite horrifically ugly yet strangely cute at the same time.

It's kind of the same with opossums. They look basically like giant creepy, scraggly rats. But they're adorable.

    Very strange.

you must not have seen real 'baby' birds before, and thought the cute fledglings you caught sight of were 'babies' when the actual newborns are always pretty ugly...

as are most humans when they first emerge from the womb, to those other than their parents... human babies, however, get to 'cute' far quicker than hatchlings, thank goodness...

My high school girlfriend's family raised large tropical birds. They had managed to acquire an appreciation for the appearance of the tiny gremlins after hatching. I have a fear of large birds (the kind with the parrotie beaks) which was only exacerbated the first time Melonie showed me a newborn. Yuck!

I saw one, pinkish, and featherless. It was smushed on the gravel near our track field (this was, like, five year ago). I guess it fell and someone stepped on it accidentally.

btw, I've never found possums cute. When I see one, my first instinct (probably influenced from hanging with my older brother as a kid) is always to pick up a slingshot.

No, no, I've seen babies of all ages before; they don't look that bad.... Maybe I'm just that different. I guess the combination of dark down feathers and the pinkness just don't go well together.

I think baby ducks are gorgeous, especially when they first hatch, same as chicks. But anything else... is just absolutely hideous!

And maia I agree about human babies... human babies look like aliens when they are first born. (and their heads feel like jelly and sooooooooo very disgusting!!!!!!!!!) They are pretty freaky lookins for sure. But aren't quite as bad as baby birds.

I love baby birds, they remind me of the Skeksi's from The Dark Crystal. If anyone knows what I'm talking about. XD
But I like creepy things lol.

As far as baby animals other than puppies and kittens not being cute:

I agree with you on that one. They kind of remind me of them as well. But they are still hideous.

I can't wait till Mr and Mrs Smith gets all it's feathers. Should be the next day or so I think. (Mr and Mrs Smith is the finches name for now, till we find another name to use)

I loved the Dark Crystal and still have it somewhere around the house. I am obsessed with Vultures. Used to have two Vulture ornaments that were just disgusting looking before I left my kids father. He smashed them (the basterd) cause he knew I loved them so much.

fizgig ain't alf bad at all. I have 2 weeks to think of a diff name, or Mr and Mrs Smith remians forever!!!!!!!! hehehehehehe! If I hadn't named the dog Cretin, it would have been perfect! lol! Maybe maggot! :p

    That's screwed up. o_o I'd be miffed.
Vultures are pretty awesome! We're kindred spirits.
Why cook when you can eat other peoples food. XD!
As for The Dark Crystal, it's been a favorite of mine since I was little.
Though the part when the Emperor skeksi dies always gave me the creeps. It was great!

and ROFL Cretin! That's the best!
I named a baby starling we found Fizgig. But it died. :(
    What about Hoggle? xD haha.
    Me and Henson movies. o_O

Putrid sounds pretty good actually. Though it has to be a double name. So Putrid something a rather, not sure yet.
I loved the name Cretin. Suits him so much lol!

And that scene when the Emperor Skeksi died, I was sitting there eyes wide with thte biggest smile on my face. It was my all time favourite childhood movie.
