I need road trip music!

I'm leaving on a trip to Virginia today. I was going to download a bunch of new music to put on my Zune before going.

What do you guys suggest?

(keep in mind that I'm picky. if you suggest something like Slipknot or My Chemical Romance, I'll have to scorn you right out of this thread.)

Voltaire, if you want something nobody else here is likely to suggest. The Almost Human album is good fun.

You said yourself that you needed to listen to more Zeppelin. I recommend picking up their latest hits compilation Mothership. It's the perfect mix for a roadtrip.

 

Metallica always makes me think road trip.

 

For the chillaxie parts of the trip I would suggest Zero 7. Their album Simple Things is most luxuriously excellent and just exudes the sense of motion over rolling landscapes.

I suggest taking his entire discography.

 

Haha, I have most of it! Between my boyfriend and I, we have everything from Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Peeping Tom, and Tomahawk. Plus his collaborations with Sepultura and The Dillinger Escape Plan. I have the Fantomas album Director's Cut, but that's the only one I really find listenable.

What I do need to get, though, is more Lovage.

i think i must listen to just plain wierd crap.... or maybe just not rock...
my roadtrip suggestions have a little more 'trip' and a bit less 'road'....

morcheeba, mandalay, lamb, delerium, various movie soundtracks by thomas newman, yoshida brothers... but this is also my writing music half the time.... of course, i guess half of these would put most of you to sleep. haha. maybe not good for driving (but this stuff keeps my mind awake)

 

Roadhouse Blues - The Doors

Gets your blood pumping, but also a great reminder:

Maybe not as good of a driving song as Roadhouse Blues, but I've always been partial to Love her Madly and Spanish Caravan by the doors.

 

Mandalay's Instinct is a great album, though, as you said, a bit mellow for a road trip...

I don't mind Depeche Mode's Playing The Angel for driving, Some Americana like Songs: Ohia/Magnolia Electric Company, second the Deftones suggestion (White Pony), throw in some Violent Femmes and then I'd start picking out individual songs and make mixtapes... CD's, I mean.

 

I would suggest road trip music that I would listen to, but judging by the suggestions so far, I would probably just be laughed at...
