Jesse smiled at Savvina sadly, "Are you okay? You look a bit teired." Then she turned to Julian. "You don't look so good either."
Julian had one foot on the stairs. He had to move or he was going to be seen by the VP, but he couldn't move. He remeber the promise. He couldn't do it. Julian became more and more frantic until his body stopped moving. Move. Move. Move. He looked up the rest of the stairs. He had a long way to go. A lot of stairs a lot of height. It made him wuzzy and dizzy. He held on the railway he wasn't going to make it. But he couldm't pass out in front of the popular people. he mave a chance now. He just might be moving up in the world. His knees gave way. He couldn't break his promise he just couldn't. The stairs smiled at him. "That's good Julian...now sleep," He couldn't pass out now not in front of them. He didn't want to get them caught, but he couldn't make it past the fourth step. He couldn't. He wanted to stop just stop it. All of it. He hated the world. Why was everything so high?
"I'm fine. Fine." Savvina murmured, lightly slapping her head while Jesse turned away from her. She followed her and looked at Julian who seemed to be dizzying at the sight of the stairs. Sweat made way down his neck and it looked like he would pass out any minute now. "Julian...you okay? Don't do something stupid, okay - the Vice Principal would eat us alive." Savvina reached out for him, but an unknown fear kept her from getting too close. "Come on, I'll help you up."
Julian couldn't see the hand extended in front of him. He was to dizzy. He couldn't make it. "I''m sorry I won't break the promise," Julian said talking to an unknown force, "i didn't mean to upset you...I'l get caught by the law rather then break your promise...I'm sorry master." Julain couldn't take it anymore. Pressure was building up like a strong force in his head. He couldn't keep his concious going. His eyes flutter and he passed out.
Savvina gasped and quickly grabbed hold of Julian before someone noticed he had passed out. The Vice Principal now looked around the floor suspiciously, but hadn't caught sight of them yet. She flung Julian towards Michael, making him grab hold of him. "He's got some sort of issue with stairs...let's just take him upstairs, okay? We don't want to create a scene here, otherwise we'll catch his attention." Savvina murmured, scratching her neck and slowly walking past Michael and Jesse.
With no concious it began to bend again. You're a bad boy for breaking the promise you made. Bad boys deserve a punishment. Bad boy. You made a promise. Bad boy.
Micheal found Julian thrown litterally into his arms. He didn't really want to have to help him, what the hell was up with the stairs anyways? Still, he didn't want to be caught by the VP as much as anyone else so he hauled him up the flight of stairs. At the next floor he sat down and gasped for air. Julian wasn't all that big, but neither was Micheal and he was a bit strained from dragging him up so many stairs. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea to tag along. The situation kept gettin weirder and weirder, as if everybody was hiding something from everyone else. But, the thought of school still overpowered his suspicions with fear.
Savvina stopped for Michael, looking towards Jesse briefly and then down towards the VP. The VP was on the move. He was either aiming for the door or for the stairs. She perspired as she thought of the latter. She flung her head towards Michael and Jesse pointing the upper storey. "Go. And leave Julian behind if he's gonna slow you two. Just don't let him get you." Savvina didn't want to get the children caught - her trouble was hers, but they were just kids - at least Michael. She could stuff Julian elsewhere for now anyway. Then, she might be able to put off the VP. She frantically gestured Jesse and Michael to leave as the VP proceeded towards the stairs. "He's coming! Go!"
A force inside Julian awoke him. Julians eyes opened. He was a bit groggy, but he found himself in another males arms. He imediatedly let go the other male. But that made Julian get the ey contact of the VP. His heart pounded and as the Vp came roaring up the stairs. "YOU STUDENTS GET BACK TO SCHOOL! the VP yelled up the stairs. Julian thought they were done for. He would lose the friends he made and then the VP was gon. The VP just disappeared into thin air in front of their eyes. Julian looked at Savvina. "He just disappeared," Julian said, "Ny the way I'm sorry for causing you guys problems...I'm..." Julian did not have the confidence to tell them he was afraid of heights.
Jesse smiled softly and touched Julian's shoulder. "It's not your fault. I was the one who advised this whole facade." Suddenly as if an Julian was scorching hot she removed her hand. That was a loving touch. There was that word again. She felt faint to, but kept on going up the stairs.
Micheal stared blankly around. Everyone else was around Julian as he was waking up, trapped in one of those sort of nostalgic moments common in movies. Not to mention the VP was just beneath them, likely to come up and find them anytime. None of them seemed to realize just how weird things were. Did anyone else have the same feeling that this was all connected? What's to help it? I shouldn't be such a pessimist he thought.
Savvina sighed and a frown came to her face, "Later. Right now, move everyone." She lightly pushed Julian who was still lost. She found Michael maturer than the others, which was a relief.
"Sure, let's get a bit farther away from the VP." Everyone started moving upstairs, even Julian seemed to do ok. Maybe it was just because he was dizzy or not quite all there yet. The third floor was the arcade, but since it was still school hours no sounds of laughing children could be heard. It was entirely empty. Good. They couldn't go to the fourth floor because that was the adult's only bar. He had heard the VP was a drinker, so if he decided to head up there via the stairs, they would have to hide in that video jungle.
Oh crap, Chasity thought as the door creaked open. Was school out already? She imagined the mob of children that should run through the door any second - then they vaporized as a small group stepped in. A boy with dark hair raised an eyebrow at her, and her next thought was "I probably look stoned".
Micheal looked down at the girl they had seen earlier lying there on the ground. He cocked his head in confusion, wondering what was her problem. He looked over to Jesse, afraid she might try to be friendly and even maybe let another person into their group. He didn't want to have to deal with more dead weight that could cause problems, because Julian was already enough for him to handle.
Julian could hear the loud noises of games coming closer. Didn't the other kids find it weird that the VP disappeared right before their eyes. Julian stood away from the windows and the other kids. He wanted to get away from anyone. He felt hot and embarrased for passing out like that. He looked at the arcade games. "When we we're children life was always innocent, but as we grow older life becomes a violent sea of angry and hatred," Julian paused remember the words of his grandmother, "Death is the rebirth of a better person."
Savinna sat down on a table, rolling her hair on her fingers. The arcade was empty, and she wasn't into gaming herself. She thought about the day's happenings, and considered this day to be really exciting in a naughty manner. She felt calm spread throughout her body. Her muscles were relaxing. Her eyes were suddenly drooping in sleep, out of control. She found herself slowly giving in the darkness, the shallow darkness. And it started all over again. Her skin started to boil from her forehead. Her hair turned to dust as she felt an unusual wind cremate most of the hair. Her ribs started to bang against a wall, perhaps; her breathing was obstructed by gulps of blood clotting in her trachea. She could feel her stomach burning, convulsing with the intestines which were being leeched by monstrous rats. She couldn't see either. Her eyes were pinching terribly, pimples emerging all over the eyeball. She tried to scream, but there was no peace of mind to even conjure a voice for that. To those around her, she was moaning in her sleep. But little they knew how horrifying the experience was.
Julian got up all the sudden. It was an odd feeling. omething was telling him their was something wrong with someone. But why would he know? How did he know? Julian didn't know why, but he began to walk up to Savvina. His hands were out stretched he didn't know why he was doing it. He had never touched a pretty girl before. He wodnered if he would get hurt. "Savvina wake up," he hissed in a voice not like his own as if something else had taken control of his body. He gave her own good push. "Wake up," he said once again.
Savvina felt a hand. It was not like the claws which she was held by in this amplified darkness. Then a whisper surged through her numb body. "Wake up." Savvina immediately tried to break out of the illusions. But it was no use. She eyelids squirmed, but didn't open. But she didn't give up. She fought the slumber which had seized her. Still asleep, she held her head in her hands and started to scream, freeing her voice from the clutches of the dark forces. "Let me go! Let me free! Oh, please, help me!" There was a sudden release on her mind, and all the terrifying feelings left her. She was alright, but only for the time. She slowly opened her eyes, her memories of the day a bit shaky. She freed her hand from Julian, somewhat frightened.
Julian looked at Savvina. She was scared for her life. She was frightened and unaware of what was going on. "Its okay," he cooed. Julian felt much at ease and he wanted to help Savvina. He didn't know where this power came from, but something told him to comfort Savvina. "Its all right we're here," Julian paused, "You're...." he couldn't find himsel to use the word friend or anything like that. "We getting to know one another,"
Savvina tried to smile, but she couldn't get herself to. However, she gratefully nodded her head towards Julian, unable to understand herself. She was deeply embarrassed, but she didn't know why. Her memory was definitely shaky. "Thanks Julian. It's just that -" She stopped, deciding not to confide in him. She hardly knew him, or anyone around here, who were probably thinking that the 'popular' girl was a total jerk.
Julian nodded at Savvina. Julian stuck his hand in his pockets. He gave her some coins. "Games can relax people...I recommend Columns," Julian said, "Who's hungry cause I have enough money to get us some pizza?" Julian was trying to distract himself and maybe Savvina as well. Just distracting and dawdling. Alos Julian was kinda close to the window. He didn't want to look. "What kinda pizza do you want?" he asked.
Savvina looked down at the coins and thought about the idea of playing Columns. She was not into gaming, but even her friend Crystal had recommended the game so she decided to give it a go. Upon Julian's following question, she spoke out promptly: "I love pizza, so expect me to ask for a large Euro pizza." She grinned, finally relieving her muscles. She was still trembling, but her blood flow had improved over time and she hoped she would recover after a short while.
"All right I get a half and half extra large...half pepperoni, half combo, and half cheese so we have a choice," Julian said. Julian went to go down the stairs. The stairs curved and lurched at him. This was not a very good idea. "Micheal, do you want to help?" Julian asked afraid to be alone.
Julian seemed to be somebody different, seemed a bit more confident. He looked over to Jesse who was comforting the girl lying there and to Savvina who had just had what seemed to be the most terrifying experience in her life. Looking up to Julian he said, "Sure, why not. But, eh, let's get a vegetarian..." He remembered when he liked peperoni, the crunchy slivers of pork on pizza. But those were something that was no longer living and Micheal found these days that he couldn't stomach it. He didn't want to look like one of those strange vegetarian boys, but there was nothing else he could think of. "Let's go on up," said Micheal.
