Word for "Someone who can/has changed the world"

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by A.M.P., Mar 22, 2016.

    Hey WF,

I'm in need for a word that describes someone who can or has changed the world.
A bit like someone who fought fate and won or molded his current culture to one to his liking.

I found a word for it in Huron; orenda.
However, it's not English and I can't just justify my character using it and it would not match all the other English titles the others have.

Anyone know of something similar but English?
It doesn't even have to be a singular word, it can be anything that would work as a title ie: he who moves the world. (It's a little long, but you get it)

I'm thinking of going with Worldmaker but I have an inkling this might not be the best one available.

The closest word in English to 'orenda', that I can think of, would be 'pious'. Orenda doesn't refer to a person or anything a person has done or can do. It's more an abstract concept of a spiritual 'spark' a person has(for lack of a better explanation). I would think to describe someone who "fought fate and won or molded his current culture to one to his liking" calling the character revolutionary might work, though it might sound too militant.

Transformational? Transformative? Or are you looking for a noun only?

I think I'd prefer a noun as most of my other titles for the characters are nouns so it'd match the rest of the story.

Currently, the best thing I could come up with is Primal Breaker since the meaning is abstract enough to be interesting but also makes sense from the meaning of the words and context.
Not sure if I'm entirely happy with it as it sounds a bit... epic but it's what I got to work with :3

That sprang to mind, too. And it fits, broadly speaking although the OP might want to avoid the religious overtones. A trip to the thesaurus reveals: savior (potential reject), but also liberator, emancipator, hero (another initial thought), redeemer, leader, and a few others.

Without more of a feel for the culture in the OP's work, it becomes easier to struggle for the right word.

    A couple of word suggestions:

    Trailblazer
    Pioneer
    Groundbreaker
    Trendsetter
    Originator

    And a few ideas:

    Metamorpher
(not an actual word but obviously related to metamorphosis).

Global Sculptor or Globe Sculptor, or Earth Sculptor

    Globemaker (globe maker)

    Earthmaker (earth maker)

Societician (not an actual word but combining the words "society" and "politician" and/or "magician")
