Is there a way to send a private message to another member ? I thought I was doing it when I sent a 'conversation', but it seems to be open to everyone
"Start a Conversation" is the same as sending a private message to someone. The name's just confusing.
Conversations are only open to the people you invite in. If you start a conversation with someone by default only you and that person are in the loop. You have the option to invite people and to allow the other person to invite people, but you have to actively choose those options.
A Conversation is a PM and is private. Don't confuse it with posting messages on a member's profile page. That's a separate messaging system from the Conversation. Profile page messages are open and readable to all, but not Conversations. Notice also that when sending a conversation that you have to purposefully click the option at the bottom in order to let your Conversation recipient add others. Otherwise, they cannot.
Then how can someone else reply to a Conversation message that I did NOT tick add others ? ... I am very confused now ..
The adding others is for a Conversation with more than two participants. It's understood that the default is going to be an A-B conversation.
If you don't tick it, there can be no C participant. I'm going to send you an example PM to make it clear. @thirdwind, you're going to be my C, if you don't mind..
I may be looking like an idiot now ... I am A - I sent a message a couple of days ago to to B. But I got a message back from C.
Good Q. Well all I can say is that it is listed on the age marked "Conversations." I'd send you some screen snaps but I don't want the same to happen again
Send me the screen caps as a response in the PM I sent you. No one other than you and I have access to that PM. I've not invited anyone else.
I think you should look again, maybe C started a new conversation with you and it was a coincidence that it looked like a reply to the message you sent to B.
