I just joined and can't wait to meet other writers and have my writing reviewed. I love writing, reading, and music, they're my two biggest hobbies. I enjoy writing stories, poems, and my own songs, although I've been having a bit of trouble getting into my writing mindset. That's the main reason I joined this site, so I could read other people's work and hopefully get back in touch with my author side. I also play guitar. I've been playing for around two and a half - three years now. Metal's my favorite kind of music, although I like hard rock, alternative, and classic rock (bands such as AC/DC, Motley Crue, and others of that sort). All That Remains is my favorite band. My favorite book series so far is The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I also like the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. My favorite book is Wizard and Glass, the fourth book in the Dark Tower series. But about my personality in general: I'm normally an easy-going, goofy guy. I like hanging with my girlfriend and my friends and acting goofy and dumb with them. But other than my funny, good natured side, I can be serious when the time calls for it. I care a lot for my loved ones, more than anything else. I'm kind of shy at first, but after a while, I can open up to people. Though I don't act like it a lot of the time, I'm pretty well educated for most people in my town. I don't know if that's saying a lot considering I live in a tiny Kentucky town, but you can be the judge of that. I'm not really sure what else to say, and have probably already rambled on for too long. If there's anything else anyone would like to know, just PM me and we can talk. I'm looking forward to making new friends.
Hello Chassit, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
