So as I understand it, it's important to choose a publisher that's familiar with the content you're writing because they're more likely to publish a book that's in safe territory rather than try something new. But at the same time, a certain level of publisher loyalty is expected of authors because if an author went from one to the other "La donna รจ mobile" style, then no publishers would want to deal with them. So what do you do if you want to publish different genres? I've got a few projects in the works at present, but they're significantly different in content. Unique pen names are a must of course (You wouldn't find a love story by Gore Blight or a horror book by Luv N. Cuddles.) but I'm not sure if that by itself is enough. What I'm hoping I can do is this. Publisher 1: Serious action/horror books aimed at young adults. PN: Tom Falcon. Publisher 2: Educational picture book for children ages 3-6. PN: Tom Robbins. Publisher 3: Intense Gonzo style for adults. PN: Thomas Crow. I'm not even sure if it's allowed for a single author to publish under separate pen names, but how else would they publish in such disparate genres?
Better yet, if you have secured an agent when your first manuscript is accepted, let the agent worry about those details. The agent will know if your fist publisher will publish in the new genre or subgenre. If not, he or she will know what other publishers are worth trying.
there's no reason you can't use a slew of pseudonyms... it's done all the time... but as cog notes, it would be best to get an agent first and let them do the work for you...
