Oops--sorry about that--wrong on all three counts (and a tip of my hat to Mick and Keith--I figure if you're going to 'steal' lyrics, you may as well steal the best...) I am none of those things, unless you count my wealth in terms of an extraordinary life on the road, and my taste as odd and eclectic. Come to think of it, I guess I'm two out of three. I've been one the road since I was 16 and that was a very long time ago. I'm a firm believer that any day I wake up in my tent--or rather, out of it, is a good day. Oh yeah--I write as well. I've been poking around the site for a while now and am delighted to see such a helpful bunch. I'd like to contribute if I may? I've read the reviewing and critiquing stuff as well as several of the poems and short stories. I'd love it if one of the moderators or perhaps a senior member could have a quick look to see if my posts/critiques have been helpful and done the way you'd like. Hello Kit, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Someone made off with all the pancakes, leaving only a stack of sticky plates and coffee stains on the countertops. And a few cig butts stubbed out on the plates, too, so we have that much of a clue. So if you encounter an overweight smoker with maple breath, please let us know... Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Looks like that cloaking device of yours is working well. Mallory--the road is wild! I've loved every minute of it and I am happiest when I am in motion. The trick is to find a way to get paid to wake up in a new town every day. Are you familiar with Even Cowgirls Get the Blues[I]by Tom Robbins? That'll give you a feel for it. I'm working on a collection of short stories because it has been so wild Gigi I will happily befriend anyone who thinks music is worth listening to!
