Fear of flying whilst sitting next to a crying baby for x amount of hours? Yes. Fear of flying without said brat? Nope.
Which is just as bad as smacking into concrete. __ I don't have a fear of flying. I've flown quite a bit in my life and I sleep most flights.
Hmm...I think I'd rather the concrete, as I'd prefer to die quickly. As opposed to potentially being crushed on impact, then going into shock from the cold water, panic that I was suddenly in water, and then almost inevitable drowning to finish.
I’ve flown enough that it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I deal with math and statistics, so i know how safe it is compared to other methods of travel.
If you land in water after falling from airplane height, you won’t live for the instant that it would take to feel the cold. You certainly won’t have time to panic or drown. From sufficient height, water is a hard surface.
If you were free-falling, absolutely, but contrary to the movies, such an impact is unlikely as long as the wings are intact, as even a 747 can glide due to the shape of its wings (known as the camber) creating lift as the air goes around it. If that lift is lost (like there's a hole in a critical place causing imbalance) then such a fall is likely. I was in the air cadets in my teens.
