    Greetings

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Xina, Jan 26, 2009.

    Well, hello everyone.

I suppose I should start with the basics. My name is Christina, most of my friends call me Xina. I've been obsessed with literature since my brother used to read me to sleep with X-Men comics and his literature text book.

When I was eight I decided to write a children's book. My logic at the time was who better to write for children than a child? (Oh, the logic of a child!) By the time I was 8 pages into what was most obviously more short story than children's picture book I began to think I may have something here. Writing has been my obsession ever since.

I have stumbled upon your charming abode in an attempt to find like minded individuals with whom to share, learn, develop, and vent.

I do warn you that I am a bit sarcastic, silly, and prone to strong opinions.

I thank you for having me and will now await that special post informing me to not post my work right away and the importance of reviews. (forgive me, I read other intros before posting.)

    :D

Hello Christina, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Silliness and strong opinions are great, but be careful with sarcasm. Our first rule is respect toward other members in all matters.

I'm glad you've seen te other threads, but I'll still direct the tour anyway. What the hey... :)

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

My name is Kristina too! Only spelled differently, obviously.

Yeah, I decided to write my first story when I was around that age too. Of course, being the Lassie fanatic I was at that age, my story turned out to be a blatant Lassie rip off! XD But it was MINE. All MINE. I had written around 25-40 pages (can't remember) maybe a little more, a little less, then I lost the notebook and was heart broken.

To this day I still have no idea where that notebook is.

Hey Xina! Welcome to the WF!

As long as your 'sarcasm' won't be recognize for anything atrocious then I guess it would be ok. Other then that feel free to joking around! (Because I like to... but just make sure its appropriate ;))

    Nice to meet you
