hi, i'm not seriously considering publishing at the moment. I'm just curious. I've read a couple of novels like Crime and Punishment and Count of Monte Cristo. it says in the forewords that these were first serialised. does this mean that he submitted a few chapters at a time to a magazine? I know it sounds like a stupid question. but i'm just curious if they still do it.
a few magazines still do that, but usually just niche ones... in the not so far off past, a lot of the major mags still did it...
It was a pretty standard way of doing things its how Dickens,Louisa May Alcott, Arthur Conan Doyle, Enid Blyton etc started. I'm going to use my website to serialise some of my stories. In effect self publish.
