My Name: N/a Age: 19 Sex: Male Occupation: Military So I decided to search for a forum on creative writing, and this site turned out to be one I preferred. I was looking for a site like this to help when it comes to writing my novel. My plan is to have a trilogy completed by the time I get out of the military, which will be in 5 years. And release one at a time. I also draw, so I'll probably create a graphic novel also. But anyways... Yuh. So, hi.
Well, I def don't want to give too much away. Especially since its still in its very early stages... But its going to be a subliminal political book based in the dark ages with quite abit of fantasy. That's as detailed as I'll go. I do plan on forcing my self to write every day. Even if I don't have time. So I might possibly slip a few chapters through here and then on this forum.
Hello Shakester, Welcome to the Creative Writing Forums. Please read How to Use the Writing Workshop before you try to post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here anyway. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Writing Workshop, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Writing Workshop, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. We also impose a two-week waiting period before you may post writing for critique, to give you time to become familiar with what is expected and how the site operates. The Writing Workshop forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Writing Workshop forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
If I can even gain any motivation to write everyday. I don't feel like doing a damn thing thing after I get off work. I swear the military drains me of everything.
Graphic novel sounds pretty good. I've been trying to make one some time ago and aye it's hard. It's really strange that sometimes being in military makes people creative. Several people I know who are ex-military are really creative in writing, music and art - sometimes at the same time.
Tis tough to get going sometimes but once you have your basics Im sure it will be relaxing to write. Thats what I find any way (but maybe im strange lol) x L x
I was doing some thinking one day at work and pretty much just imagined how people were in high school. And no matter who I looked at, the same thing came to my mind everytime. "They had to of been bullied alot."... And alot of people who are mistreated and such are those who are creative, or intelligent. That's just my thought on it though. Maybe it's just where I work? Who know's. Well, I have the basic idea of a novel, but not enough to start writing yet. Idk if that makes sense or not. But that's where I'm at. So I'm currently, or was, writing parts that could possibly be in the novel I want to work on.
That's because creative and intelligent people have better ways of relieving their issues than diminishing other people's worth. They simply increase their own.
True. Aslo, @ the graphic novel idea. Idk if I really want to go through with it or not. I know it's going to be ahella lot more expensive than just writing.
Maybe, but when you have pictures you only need to write down whatever they say. You'll save plenty of words that way.
