I like the witty and sarcastic characters in the book. Though usually they're just fillers or spot ons, I most remember my favourite books by it's secondary characters.

I do like the mentor archetypes, the ones who become like a fatherly figure and always encouraging the character such as:
Rothen in Trudi Canavan's magician trilogy,
Niko and Rosethorn in Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic quartet
Mister Tom in Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian

I personally love villains more than heroes, who are more bound by moral restraints. In particular, I am a fan of the charming antagonists, who get their way through well-placed bribes, seduction and cool wit. But beneath their charming exterior, they have a heart of stone, and would stop at nothing to ensure they achieve the ends they wish for.

The main villain, Nightingale, in my books is like that.

Tough guy with a soft heart.

Intellectuals caught in real trouble and coping just fine.

    I'd say... Indiana Jones?

    I like the underestimated character.

"You look twelve years old, stop giving me advice on how to live my life!"
"I'm actually eighty-nine but thats beside the point..."

    Anti-heros are also awesome!!

I like the guy who tries to stick to his principals whenever he can and trying his best to apply them to situations he face. Principals, however outdated or naive they may be.

Either normal people who degenerate into violence and aggression through some sort of tragic event, or ammoral people who hide behind a facade of normalcy and smiles. I don't write happy stories. ;)

I really like smart, tough guys who are witty and strong. I don't usually like the main characters in books or movies; they always come off as basically emo. I like a character with dark past but who doesn't sit there and angst over it all day long. Angsty characters annoy me more than anything.

I also love to see gay/lesbian characters who defy stereotypes. Those make my day. But there aren't many of them out there.

You should watch this British programme called Skins. I've heard it does gay relationships really well.

The anti-hero definitely. At least the underdog. I like to see the one struggling on the inside who overcomes adversity in order to save someone/thing. A lot of my own characters center around this theory.

The mistaken Alpha. I call him the Lambda.

I write little quasi poems about my archetypes.

This is the one about the Lambda.

My favorite archetype is the normal person thrust into a conflict and eventually they become great. Examples of this would be Frodo, Luke Skywalker, or Eragon.

My favourite is the middle aged underachiever.

The characters is from 35-45 and working in an unrewarding job when suddenly something strange happens in their life, whatever it may be.
Or similarly they may have a great job but have a habit that puts them into major debt and something then happens in their life.
