Can't figure it out for the life of me. I've been just using three large spaces, but it's not 100% accurate, and I want/need it to be. Also, does anyone know what the (traditional publishing) guidelines generally are for the size of chapter titles, and how much space there is between chapter titles, and the start of the first paragraph? Any help is greatly appreciated! Just trying to see if I can fit one more paragraph onto my first page while still staying within traditional manuscript format.
Go to "Page Setup" under "file" change the top margin to 3(inches). This will bring your chapter heading down 3 inches and the top margin of the rest of your document too. So you want to then go to "insert" and when you see "Break" click "section break (continuous)" then go back to Page Set Up the "Apply To" area will be highlighted. Change the top margin back to 1 and apply it to "this section forward" Unfortunately, you'll have to do this for each of your chapters. But you'll get the same spaces each time versus doing it manually
It takes a little messing-around-with to figure it out. This page is very helpful: How to Add, Show, and Remove Page and Section Breaks in Google Docs Especially for when you add too many breaks and have to figure out how to remove some, or use section breaks instead of page breaks (or whatever I did, I'm not even sure, but I was able to eventually fix it).
Only used Google docs for sharing a file. But most word processing software allows for the use of templates. So make your setting adjustments then save them as a template, which should save some effort.
