Been researching and trying out writing software and online platforms for months. Always end up back on Scrivener, but I have experienced so many lost documents and bugs I just had to bail. Finally landed on this platform called, Dabble. It's amazing! It's all the fundamental tools Scrivener has without all the bloated nonsense. Zero learning curve. I got it down in thirty minutes. Simple plot tools and excellent sidebars with moveable and nested chapters and scenes. Excellent customer service as well. And no, I don't work for them. Just a happy user who was wiped out searching for the right platform. The bad: It's cost prohibitive for some. It's expensive. But worth every dime for me. Does anyone else use it? What do you like or dislike about it? Happy writing.
That is a setting issue. There is an automatic back up setting, and a very good recovery tool, for corrupted files. It is also a habit issue on the writers side. Personally I make a point of backing up my writing on an external HD.
Unfortunately, it was a Scrivener issue which they agreed was a corrupt file problem that happened twice on their end. So, no user error here. Used Scrivener for years and understand every function pretty well. Just wasn't worth it for me in the end. Not to mention, the online ability of Dabble and having everything I liked about Scrivener without all the extra bells and whistles was a plus for me. I'm glad it's working for you though. Again, there's nothing better out there. Dabble just had the "Scrivener lite" I needed.
Glad you found what works for you. If you are getting corrupted files, might want you runs some tests on your HD, the corruption problem might be bad sectors on the drive.
I actually went back and found the email they sent me last year about the issue. I misspoke. It wasn't a corrupt file. It was data loss in a version upgrade. And, it didn't save correctly to my Dropbox due to some connection issue they were having. All very strange, but that was enough for me. Been searching for alternatives ever since. But again, it was mostly the bloated, unnecessary tools I simply didn't need, and the ability to write from any laptop, desktop, my phone, or anywhere easily from an online platform. Dabble also has an excellent process for saving in multiple cloud spaces and on hard drives. That's all. Glad you're enjoying Scrivener. GL.
