Looking for an excellent collection of essays. Also for one of short stories?

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm open to pretty much anything as long as the writing is good!

I'm looking to improve both my technical and short story writing skills with these selections.

    Thanks ahead of time!

I would suggest a short story anthology called The World's Greatest Short Stories. The stories are a bit on the older side (I think the latest story was published in 1950 or 1960), but it's still a good place to start.

The Norton Anthologies are great as well and have a wide selection of stories.

For a collection of essays, I would suggest Michel de Montaigne's Essays.
