Hi All I am working on my first book at the grand old age of 24. It's a kind of "good person gets forced into the company of some bad people" story. The reason I am appealing for help is because there are going to be several people getting murdered in the book and I want the scenes to be realistic and detailed when I describe them. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good places to get information on this sort of thing. For example, in the first few pages of the book a man has his through cut from behind whilst he sits on a sofa. I want to be able to describe what happens as graphically as possible. Any help with places to get info on this would be greatly appreciated.
Research is a fundamental skill for a writer. There are countless resources for the kinds of questions you asked. Keep in mind the following general ideas for research: 1. Public domain - Google, libraries 2. Professional help - ask a doctor, crime scene investigator, scientist, mortician, etc...the appropriate specialist for your question 3. Examples - read books, lots of books by other authors who have tackled your subject matter. 4. Don't be lazy...do your OWN research. Don't rely on others (like members of this site) to do your research for you.
