I just joined the forum (obviously) and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Holly, I'm 24 and a Freshman at WCCC. Yes, I am too ashamed to write out the name of my college so maybe you will try and figure it out yourself...or just blow it off. (thats just what I'm hoping) I'm majoring in Creative Writing so I figured this forum may be of good use to me as I start getting into the semester and come across homework that I may need help with. I have been writing short stories and poems for as long as I can remember and I have a very large collection, in which I have never shared with any soul. So, having to share my work now that I'm in school is very scary to me. I also take black and white photos in my spare time and love riding and spending as much time as I can with my horse, Tony. He is a beautiful bay that is so affectionate and trusting it blows me away. he came from a cutting farm in Texas we bought him with scars on his face and legs,(looks like he got caught up in barbed wire) was VERRRY headshy and is missing the bottom half of his lip. The forgiveness this horse has for humans is amazing. It has floored me to see the transformation he made after he came to live at our farm. He is a trooper. I love him. I drive a 2000 Chevy Xtreme, which I adore. I looove the Chevys! It really is like a rock I swear it! 165k miles and still goin strong, its like the little engine that could! It amazes me. I do have a thing for lifted trucks and Im never gonna sell the S10 but I know one day I will garage it and get a Silverado or an older Z71 and lift it. Plus, its kinda hard to get around the farm hauling stuff for the horses with a lowrider. Its not really working too well! Now that I have written the longest intro thread on here I will shut up now. Hats off to anyone who actually read it all! This is how I get when I write, I just never wanna stop! Hope to get to know some of you better and learn a thing or two and maybe lend some of my advice out. Have a good weekend!
Hello Holly, Welcome to the Writing Forums. I'm sorry to say we can't offer help with your assignments. However, hopefully you will find confidence and ideas that will help. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
