Can you submit a piece to more than one journal? Can you have the same piece published in more than one publication? Thanks!
Becky Johnson, Yes, some markets allow simultaneous submissions. If they do, it is normally spelled out in their guidelines, and they usually ask that they be informed in the cover letter that it is a simultaneous submission, and also if the piece is accepted by another market, that they are immediately notified. Many markets, however, state clearly that they do not accept simultaneous submissions. Yes, the same piece can be sold as a reprint, depending on the market (usually indicated in the guidelines if they accept reprints). Also, some limitations may be present depending on the contract you sign for the first publication of a piece. Terry
How good are the odds that any single publisher will pickup your work? Pretty low. If you submit to several journals, get 5 denials and one accepts you then no one is any wiser for it. If 2 make an offer, you just accept one.
i wouldn't advise cheating, by going against a publication's guidelines that state unequivocably, 'no sim-subbing'... just submit to the ones that allow it and skip those that don't, if you don't want to risk your rep...
