Would you italicize "oximeter"? One of the uses of italics is keywords, but I'm on the fence with this one, since it's an easy one... Thanks.
Nope. I wouldn't put it in Italics. The only medical terms that need to be italicised are the scientific names, certain lesser known disease names, some derivative forms of some body parts and organs. My parents are docs and i have a habit of browsing through those subscribed medical journals (though i dont get half of the things in it ). Those journals never put any instrument names in italics.
sounds right to me... fiction doesn't always follow the same styling rules as academic/medical writing, but i don't see any reason for it to be italicized, if you're writing a story/novel...
I know this is just one random example, but I was into reading Michael Palmer's thrillers at one time, and he doesn't use italics for the names of instruments or medical terms.
