But this is me giving it a go, by using a wonderful old fallback: Name: You may refer to me as M. (I feel like I'm in a James Bond movie) Well, it's Maddy or Madalin. But not Lowey please, I'll wonder how my uncles and/or Dad got on this forum. Age: 20-ish. Because that's what it says on my drivers licence but that's not always how I behave. Location: Well it does say over there, but I'm in Sydney, Australia. The weather could be better, apparently it's going to be 14 degrees tomorrow! God, I hate winter. Eh. Okay, if you're that interested in finding out if I like Tim Tams or not (hey, who doesn't?) you can check out my profile. Although, it doesn't say whether I like Tim Tams or not, they're not even mentioned! Writing is my only creative outlet. I'm one of the most visually uncreative people I know and the written word is how I express myself. I think I have great ideas but fail a bit at the execution. Self doubt is a bitca. Oh, Xander *pets* I've got a series and two stand-alones in the pipeline, all wishing to be written first (the series is winning, just). They all have a sci-fi/fantasy/drama/romance/action slant. I don't want to bore you with details and I really should get back to work. Having a desk job is full of unexpected perks. I'm looking forward to meeting you all!
Welcome! (I like Tim Tams, but the other way of eating them annoys me. If you were supposed to bite off perpendicular corners and use it as a straw, they should've made them straw-shaped.)
Hello Maddy, Welcome to the Writing Forums. So what was so awful about that intro? Seemed just fine to me. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
