Well, today's interview went well! I'd really really like this job (I'd really really like any job, really)
My interview yesterday went, I hope, well too. The people there seemed nice, polite, and well spoken. I would like this job position, but I'm not hopeful.
^ Hope you guys get the job! My interviews have mostly gone well but it's too damn competitive so I haven't been successful yet.
What was the job? It's mad. Every interview I've had, I missed out on the job because of lack of experience. Which I can't get, because no one will give me a job!
It is. Thanks. I know! And then you look for entry-level jobs and it's like 'you need three years experience'. It's supposed to be ENTRY-LEVEL. It sucks!
Administrator assistant at a company called Northumbria Coaches. One of those companies that give tours of castles and such. During the interview I had to explain why I didn't work during university, I felt terrible having to say 'I wanted to focus on my studies' and since I have no 'real-world' experience I'm not hopeful of my chances. The worst thing is, employing people with experience, often older people who have proven they can work in a workplace does make a lot of sense, but it seems to me like only a short term bonus. Having highly qualified people but inexperienced, because they decided to get the qualifications just doesn't seem right. Especially considering with a degree you have proven you can work, just they have not 'proven' that with paid work. And that's the thing it seems. Doesn't matter apparently if you have the experience, though just voluntary, you get preferred if you have been paid. That's what I've been told anyway.
I really wonder why they expect 21 year olds to have 3-5 years experience plus qualifications! It's ridiculous. Why invite graduates to interviews if they expect to turn you down for those reasons? How much experience are we supposed to have at our age? =/
It makes no sense, for sure. However, when a company says "No," you can't count on any reasons they may give. In the States, sometimes they won't even tell you if you've been turned down. You just never hear from them. Or you'll get a canned reason. Why? Two reasons - concern about litigation, and concern about insane revenge reactions. I don't know if that's what's happening there. One thing he should not do is take it personally. Competition for jobs is very high, and very qualified people are disappointed daily. All a job seeker can do is hone his or her interviewing skills, polish the resume or CV, build on professional/social networking, and keep plugging away.
yeah i agree you have to treat it like a part time job. I was a carpenter back home before i came out here to the oilfield, work had slowed down soooooo much i was getting like 12 hours a week. My daughters Godfather was overseas in Afganastan and he told me of all the positions out there, so i jumped on it, i had to treat it like a part time job, i swear i spent at least 4 hours a day banging out resumes and filling out applications, over and over and over, and then 5 months later i was actually offered a job with FLUORS, they where going to offer 103,000 a year. my wife was not very excited and to be honest neither was i, cuz of all the dangers with the war and stuff, but i went ahead and started the process.. i ended up not going cuz i couldnt get my security clearance.... i was a bit of a bad boy back in my younger years.... so then i jumped on the oilfield train, putting in application after application... over and over.... untill 4 months later i got a job offer, it did help that i had an inside connection to though.... but you just have to be presistant.... treat it like a part time job, you may want to even stoop to a piss poor job to start, some money is better than no money, in my experience employers are more apt to hire you if you are already working, it shows them you can commit to a schedule..... but hang in there yall, my fingers are crossed for ya

CONGRATS!!! That is so amazing! Happy today just 'cause...life is good! I also love getting good mail and free stuff.
SEriously JessWrite, you have the sweetest online personality. You embarrass me. Nice to have you online right now.
Go get 'em, Matt! Walk in there as if you already own the job, that choosing anyone else would be foolish. Not arrogant, just confident and purposeful. For what it's worth, I have always interviewed well. If I get an interview, I have a good percentage on getting an offer. And that is how I do it.
So this could be considered happy news or bad news, but today we got a timetable for the two week exam period that's coming up not next week but the one after. The idea is that you only have to be at school for your exams, meaning that if you don't have an exam on one of the days then you don't need to go at all. So my timetable managed to work out so that I get the middle Friday off, then obviously the weekend, and then the following Monday and Tuesday. 5 day weekend! Mind you I'll be spending it studying, but hey a 5 day weekend is a 5 day weekend. Plus all I will have left to study for is Modern History and German, and I love both of those subjects. I'm probably a little too happy about this, but I don't care
Well, I'm happy that I got an A for my rock climbing test in gym, and my really really good friend who I haven't seen in 2 years is in my technology class!
