- The Omnivore's Dilemma, And the Band Played On, The Powers that Be, The World Without Us, The Brethren, Bitter Fruit... I guess I should add some fiction: Catcher in the Rye, A Thousand Splendid Suns, The Kite Runner, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo... Hard for me to think of other fictional pieces that deeply impressed me. I'm an especially tough critic of fiction, which makes it really odd that I am now a writer of fiction.
