How did I not see this when I watched the show? I guess I wasn't so well-versed in symbolism at the time, especially reading it in movies and books. No, I was, at least to some extent. It just slipped past me. Now it seems so obvious!
In my defense, I only watched the show once, as it was being aired. I like to think if I had watched it again I would have paid attention to symbolism more.
