One more thing, @Kur. If you're looking to find more publications, a great way to get a mini introduction to places is to get a copy of The Pushcart Prize. It's an anthology that comes out every year that publishes the best work from all the literary journals and magazines. You'll find stories that were originally published in both large and small publications. I pick it up every year and find it definitely worth the read. You might also want to check out Duotrope. It is a searchable database of just about every publication out there. Plus, there are a lot of other features, statistics, and tracking. It's $5 a moth or $50 for the year. I also find this well worth it. It's important to remember not all publications are equal, and it's important to read what they are publishing to know not just what they like, but also if you like them and what they publish. Good luck to you!
26 day form rejection from Salamander. I'm on a roll? Same story from last two rejections is with another couple of publications an inordinate length of time. When they come back, I'll retire it and curse the short-sightedness of the publishing world.
Good gravy, I had to go back 5 pages to find my last rejection on here. They seem to be taking their time with my latest batch of subs. Probably the busy season or something. This evening I received a 31-day form rejection from Bacopa Literary Review. That's a sweet 16 for the year now.
Ah, now they are starting to roll in. I sent two pieces to West Branch 35 days ago, and received a form letter rejection this afternoon. 17th for the year.
90 day higher tier from Nightmare. I know because the one for my flash piece wasn't this encouraging, lol. Unfortunately, "I look forward to your next submission!" does me no good. Their window is only open one week a year, I think, and I don't have other horror poetry to send them, anyway. I've only ever written the one. Oh well, on to other publications, I guess. Right?
Already received two form rejections from agents. I knew they'd hate it ! A 2-day from FinePrint Literary and a 3-day from HG Literary. We're up to 19 now, though just 2 for the novel, the rest for shorts. Reckon I'll keep mixing them together here.
Submitted two flash pieces to Fractured Lit and received a form letter rejection 40 days later. I can tell that they gave them careful consideration. "Thank you for sending us "14212". After carefully reviewing your submission..." 14212 is the random number the submission was assigned in Submittable Well, that's 20 for the year now. I gotta pick up the pace a bit.
No one made them choose to include the word carefully, but they did, and then still said what they said. It’s almost funny. Not quite but almost.
This is when you can feel the industry slowing in terms of submission windows closing and such. So many places are closed until next fall now. I've got about 50 pending submissions out there, but I'm finding difficult to make new submissions at the rate I was able to earlier this year. I'm basically not submitting anywhere new. I think I'll work on a piece for The First Line.
Why is that @deadrats? Ain't summertime writing season for academia when they're between semesters. I guess maybe that would explain why there would be a blitz in the Fall when everyone's done writing?
