    "Advances Uncopyedited Edition"

Discussion in 'Discussion of Published Works' started by J.T. Woody, Apr 17, 2024.

I've heard of ARCs but not AUEs.... What are they for? Have you read any?

I caught a few typos and weird sentences that i thought was weird that it was in an ARC... Then i noticed the cover had "Advanced UNCOPYEDITED Edition"

Just curious...What is the expectation with this edition?

(Book is supposed to come out in July, and i got this copy directly from the publisher)

Not sure, but I'd imagine it's the earliest possible edition they have available to get their marketing team on the project. Which would include libraries as they're part of the promotion train, maybe?

    Way, way out there
I have an Advance Uncorrected Proof copy of a book I got recently. It's a book by Fritz Leiber called Strange Wonders, a collection of some of his rare works. I deliberately got the uncorrected proof because it was paperback and cost a lot less than any copy of the hardback I could find. I've only really looked at one poem in it so far and haven't noticed any typos or anything, but I assume it's the first version that gets printed so they can check for any mistakes in typesetting and design flaws etc. I also assume they get sent out to a lot of people involved so they can proofread it, and so the author can approve of everything or ask for changes.

    What is an ARC?

    Advanced Review Copy

they send it out to get reviews before the book goes live. the comments on the back of the book? most likely came from ARCs

I’d assume the AEUs are sent to copy editors to get quotes for their services
