I knew that. Just being stubborn. And not very bright, I guess. But now I do know the way.

Amen. Once again, Madison, Wisconsin. Which also allows more than one use of the same name, e.g. the corner of Old Sauk (Road) and Old Sauk (Court). Or Wisconsin's use of township names and city village names, e.g. the City of Madison and the Town of Madison, adjacent separate entities.

Where I live, you can't get anywhere without going somewhere else first, but since one can walk across town in an hour, it's hard to get too lost.

Like the old joke about the guy driving in some rural area, asks a local for directions, and the answer is, "If I was you, I wouldn't start from here," or "You can't get there from here."

In the cold light of morning I realize the real reason I didn't want to stop and ask someone: I had the guest speaker with us in the car and I didn't want to appear incompetent by being lost in my own city.

Or perhaps the Village of Dane, in the Township of Dane, in Dane County, Wisconsin.

I've been down around Houston, Texas
Where the sun shines most of the time
I've been drivin' about six hours
Tryin' to reach that Arkansas line
    But Texarkana's an hour ahead

Big Brother, or at least his commercial cousin, is apparently really listening. Several years ago I learned I have a genetic condition called Dupuytren's Contracture, which was explained to me as a tendency for the tendons in my hands to gradually thicken and contract. It's something that usually affects people of northern European descent, like my being half-Swedish. Not a problem now, may never be, but in worst case conditions my hands could seriously and permanently contract, kind of like claws. But until it gets to serious point, best course is to simply do nothing.

Anyway, two days ago the wife and I were sitting at breakfast, my cell phone sitting on the table beside me. I was rubbing my hand and mentioned to my wife, "Remember I told you about my hand thing, I think it's getting worse, some of the tendons hurt a bit and I can feel them more." Something like that.

Fast forward two days, and I get an ad on FB for a website discussing treatment for Dupuvtren's. I swear I don't recall doing any sort of internet searches on that for the past several years, and certainly not within the past year. Yet within two days of that oral discussion at the table, the ad appeared. I've been dismissive of what I considered Luddite paranoia regarding our phones and laptops listening in, but now I am seriously concerned about it.

Ironically, of course, here I am now posting about it on social media.

    And I think I hear a knock at the door upstairs . . . . ..

I've been seeing a lot of those ads, lately and mine was an accident lol....

The actual commercial for treatment for that condition came on TV and (apologies), it freaked me out. Watching the hand contract like that made me feel weird and made my hands ache.
So i told my husband "turn it off! my hands hurt just watching!"

aaaaand now i get FB ads about it

Well, at least for now and the foreseeable future, my hands work fine and don't ache, just a bit irritable from time to time.

any sort of forum or social media group where the purpose is sharing information and someone in the group always responds with 'google it'
...thanks, genius. let me delete/unfollow/unsubscribe to this because all my answers will be solved in just a google search.

(fyi, this isnt about this forum. in a book group im in, someone asked for a book recommendation, and a response was "google" and it pissed me off)

also the fact that the mod deleted my response when i called the person out on it... but didnt delete theirs

I would have to confess that some of the questions asked on some of the facebook groups I patronise (non-writing) get a bit... repetitive

All mods are equal, but some are more equal than others

I must admit there are times I’m tempted, particularly when the same person is asking the same question for the eleventh time. “

I am annoyed when people ask me, for the umpteenth time, what time it is.

It is precisely for that reason that I never joined The Neighbourhood Watch.

Anyway, here's something that annoyed (and also amused) me: Republican senator opposes Safe Gun Storage Law ... because you might need your gun to protect yourself from "Killer Cows"

I think they're running out of excuses. I'm not a cattle farmer, but I can't remember reading about cows "trampling" people. (I'm guessing that cows tend not to do that, unless they are panicked? Does anyone know?)

I'm also not a gun expert, but to me, it stands to reason that guns should be safely locked away unless there's a really good reason for using them. (Then again, I googled my local law about this. Here in Victoria, guns and firearms must be stored in a specially-built safe or locker, to ensure that they are safe and not easily accessed by anyone who isn't legally allowed to access them.

That's the law here. Now I wonder about Minnesota -- yikes!)

As for this senator ... he represents Maple Grove, a suburb of Minneapolis. I wonder how many cows he'd seen that weren't being grilled or BBQed ...

Course the counter argument is that if it’s securely locked away it’s not much use when you do really need it.

I tend to the view that it should be secure unless it’s on your person ( and secure includes things like in a fast action safe by the bedside or in a vehicle)

it also very much depends on what type of firearm and where you are and what you need it for.

If we are talking about hunting or target shooting weapons then yes, store them in a gun safe. If we are talking about a PDW, personal defense weapon, then no. A PDW does no good if you can't get to it when you need it. A home invader isn't going to wait while you get your weapon from a gun safe, and load it. Just like they won't wait the 5-30 minutes for the police to arrive.

I have no problem with severe penalties for the irresponsible weapon owner, or for those who have lost their legal right to own a firearm.
