Yeah, I couldn't make it through the first season. I found the whole father teaching his son how to be a good killer so preposterous I couldn't watch it anymore.
I get that, but I saw it as the backstory of an antihero. The murderer who does good, seems like it the classic antihero taken to the extreme.
It’s a good idea, and I wouldn’t hesitate to go this route if it was a mainstream romance. “Shadow Daddies” are a big trend in fantasy romance right now: MMCs who are tall, dark, mysterious, morally ambiguous if not outright villainous, and wield dark powers (sometimes literally involving shadows). Certain chunks of the readership can’t get enough of them. At the same time, if there’s a common trend among the readers of R4M, it’s that they’re after relatable male leads rather than female fantasies. If this wasn’t designed as a role reversal, a sort of “Shadow Mommy” archetype might work; there’s no shortage of men whose fantasies include “I can fix her!” But role reversing the usual barbarian romance tropes is what made this so appealing in the first place. After talking it out, I think I’ll be fine if I avoid anything too obscene. And if not, that’s something that can be tweaked in conversation with beta readers.
Might be sooner than later. This idea has so thoroughly captured my imagination I can’t concentrate on other projects, so I’m tempted to pants the first few chapters just to get it out of my system. But if anybody has more ideas on the first two bullet points, I’m all ears.
Hmm. Why does the rhythm here remind me of the song "Dixie" (as in "Look away, look away" etc., which becomes "Back away, back away" etc.)? Now I have the irresistible urge to write a parody of "Dixie", using these words. Possibly sung by one of these narcissists who thinks they can "fix" women, with everyone else singing the refrain. Something like this: Narcissist: Oh, I met a woman and you know I'll change her! I don't care about the danger-- Everyone else: Back away! Back away! Back away! No you can't. Yikes. I've read enough history books about the ACW to know that it was a sad time, and being a 'darn'd furriner', I certainly wouldn't wish to antagonise either the North or the South. No, thanks. I only know about the "Dixie" song because of Tom Lehrer's song, "I wanna go back to Dixie", which starts with the melody. Take a look.
