I've been in living in Ireland for the last 4 years. But I'm returning to England either this September or March of next year.

I had to read this twice. The first time, I thought you meant you're annoyed by female main characters in stories, and you're also annoyed by novels named Kat.

No, just that novels named Kat should always and only have male main characters, amirite Earp?

With the flu and road accidents there is a certainty that at certain times of the year the rate will be high and low, the cause and spread is well researched and alot has been done to try and minimise casualty rates from both over the years due to that knowledge. The Corona virus however is knew, not alot is know, just that it's rapidly spreading and the death rate so far is 2,000 and climbing. So yeah, people should concern themselves until the experts have a handle on it because belting out misinformation to try and calm the population is how pandemics become bigger than it is in the first place. So yeah, better to be safe than sorry I say.

I've been in America for three weeks and I'm homesick for Japan.

I was in Japan for six months and was homesick for America because:
    1. I could get places by car instead of train. This meant I could avoid being shoved into already-crowded train cars by burly white-gloved personnel who never seemed to care if I could breathe or not.
    2. I could spread my arms wide without hitting another person.
    3. I could turn on the TV without watching some hapless innocent person being relentlessly ridiculed by TV "stars."

To be fair, I was in Japan on a high-pressure job and never got out of Tokyo. I would expect a Japanese person would for a pretty negative impression of the USA if the only thing he'd seen was Times Square on New Year's Eve.

Neighbours having a loud party with shitty club music. It's just past twelve... in the morning.

What kind of sick people listen to this sort of music by their own free will... in the middle of the day?

The floor is shaking and it's hard doing anything cause we can only hear - and feel - their music.

Except that we already know a great deal, such as that Corona has a similar lipid-shell and transfers similarly to influenza-virii, which means that the same basic countermeasures work against a spread (washing hands, not sneezing on other people or your hands etc. The lipid-shell means that soap-water will wash it off easily.)

also there are at least four corona viruses in general circulation already - they cause the common cold, its just that this particular one (like sara and mers) is a bit more dangerous... but its not like ebola has mutated to spread through fine droplet transmission (there is an ebloa strain that does... but fortunately it kills so quick it doesnt spread much)

Part of it is I'm stuck in the city now. I'm a suburban boy, so I was never really comfortable down here, but so much has changed in the last twenty years since I lived in America that there's a lot of added future shock. Pay for a meal with a credit card, sure. A soda pop at the 7-11? Madness. I'm terrified to see my statement when I get back, Japan still runs on cash and so does my mind, but $500 in-pocket seems unwise here.

    The South Carolina primary election.

No, this isn't a political post.

It's just that the newscasters keep saying "the Palmetto state." My first fifty exposures to the word "palmetto" were in reference to palmetto bugs, aka Florida giant swamp cockroaches, so every time I hear that word...

    Ugh.
