    Name: Maera Qarreos

    Gender: Female

    Faction: Young Dragons

Relationships: The Qarreos are a somewhat freshly broken off portion of old Valyrian family, who transplanted to Tyrosh to dominate in the slave and dye trades. Their family is known for its control of the market, and their audacious hair colors with ornate armors. Maera is a second daughter to her parents, Jaedar and Haesys, father and mother respectively. She has no brothers, but numerous cousins from her uncles Balaevar and Viselyx. Her grandmother, Maesella, was widowed by battle, and frequents visiting Maera specifically.

Appearance: Maera stands at a rather imposing 5’ 10, and carries the height to its maximum by standing straight in a soldierly manner, shoulders back and chest out. Her build is dense, but not overly large, and she displays strength in musculature, often found imposing by those assumed to be her guards. Maera has the fine figure details of a Valyrian, but roughened by hard training as a man. Her eyes retain the purple of all pure blood Valyrians, but her hair is of a died vermillion. The color is maintained always to display her ferocity, but is kept at a shorter length to maintain the ability to fight. She is most often found in a sort of hardened leather armor, resistant to fire by way of magical enchantment, and carries a sword of Valyrian steel, finely chiseled and ordained with the markings of her house. Here is a pronounced scar on her neck from childhood when an envious merchant tried to slice her throat after he was cut out of a trade deal. It stretches from her left collar bone to the right side of her neck, below the ear. Her voice is mellow, but tails off deeply for a woman, and her language with the Tyroshi accent is pronounced. She swears and speaks like a natural born leader in war.

Personality: Maera is undeniably brave and clever in battle, but greedy and prideful as comes naturally to a house built on the monopolization of an industry. She is known to go into fits of rage for small inconveniences, which can become quite dangerous. She is not shy of mistreating slaves, sometimes beating them near-to-death. As per her house, she suffers no Valyrian high family that is greater than hers, and is seldom invited to political events due to her pride, and her mouth. She is not a drunk, but doesn’t shy away from alcohol in celebration. In battle, she is a force to be reckoned with. Most soldiers see her as a battle maiden, bred for war on her dragon, one of only two in the family’s possession. Her attitudes are mostly shaped by her father, who raised her as a man, due to the lack of male children he was able to produce.

Possessions: The aforementioned Valyrian steel sword and fire-enchanted hard-leather armor, her grandfather’s rings which she wears hidden on a chord around her neck, and an armor set she keeps at her armory in the family estate in Tyrosh. The armor set is a highly ornate set of hand-crafted steel that she was given as a gift from her father, which displays many sharp ridges and angles as a dragon. It was meant for riding into battle on a dragon, but she refuses to wear it until a battle of true merit comes to pass. She will never let it go. Most other items her house provides normally, and other things she wants or needs she usually takes when she sees them to begin with.

    Age: 25

    Skills: Leadership, Stamina, Cunning

    Faults: Pride, Temper, Cruel

History: As was mentioned earlier, Maera had the misfortune of being second daughter to a man in need of a son. In his frustration, he forced the girl to learn soldierly and survival skills as a man, developing a strong leader, but sacrificing a childhood. He raised her in business mindsets as well, hoping that she would be cunning like her sister in acquisitions and market values. Although Maera learned many of the inner workings and principles of business, her true enjoyment came out of enduring and creating pain. The attack on her person by a thwarted merchant in trade broke her desire to fully pursue the economics paths, and instead developed her passion for revenge and violence. Maera cursed her father for years for killing the merchant with the family dragon early on, wanting to torture him profusely instead. She never forgave her father for this.

Under the teachings of masters in war and weapons, after she realized her father wasn’t going to be good enough, Maera became an indomitable tactician in battle. Maera fought in many major and minor battles between the Rhoynar. She has yet to suffer any true major wounds in battle, but has caused the death of many soldiers and civilians along the way.

    Dragon:

    Name: Aeranyx

    Primary Color: Gray

    Secondary Color: Vermillion

    Fire Color: Orange

Personality: Aeranyx is a spiteful dragon who listens to hardly anyone except those placed in charge by Maera. It refused riders from the rest of the house, eventually settling on the likewise nature of Maera. It enjoys its own fire, often burning things or animals for its own amusement. The dragon can be offended easily, and matches the rage of its rider in battle and at home. It prefers to fly low to the ground, attacking with its legs and teeth as much as its breath.

History: This dragon was raised as a hatchling by the grandmother for her sons, but none of whom could tame it, nearly dying in the process. When Maera was violently attacked, her rage led her to the grounds containing the beast with its brother, and she entered without the acknowledgement of the guards until it was too late. The beast snapped at her and attempted to burn her, but she stood stolid in the face of it, blinded but her hatred. Aeranyx respected her after that, and they have been mostly inseparable since. This further led Maera down the traditionally male path of general leadership and military prowess, as no man could stand in the way of her beast.

    Age: 37

    Advantages: Fierce, battle-tested, trained

Disadvantages: Relatively small compared to other dragons, and also fairly weak in this respect as well. Wild, in that it takes no other rider, and it oftentimes will go out of its way in bloodlust to attack anyone in front of it, sometimes friends or civilians.

No rush to get started if you need to wait for more players. I'm a mod here. I promise, I'll be around. But if you want to start relatively soon, I'm not a stranger to one-on-one RPGs either. Just let me know.

Would you be able to advertise the RP? A problem I’ve had in the past is a lack of players.

I'll have a new thread around the forum by tomorrow that references it.

I'm somewhat interested, as I'm a fan of roleplaying and ASoIaF . Though I admittedly know very little about the era you've picked. And if I'm honest, I prefer the less magical/supernatural characters and storylines of GRRM's world.

Magic is still subtle, except for the water magic of the Rhyonar. Valyria keeps it's secrets.

Are you only interested in characters who possess dragons, or are you open to other character concepts?

I think that fits in the freeholders areas. I almost did this as well.

Alright then. I'll get over to the wiki to brush up on that era. But even with the wiki as a resource I'm still likely going to come up with lots of questions for you. Should I ask them here, or should I open a conversation with you @Viserion?

I know this is @Viserion 's RPG, but I would rather have you ask them here for future reference and for others to see who are confused. Up to him of course, but that's my take.

I'm brainstorming the head of a noble family (Old Blood) in Volantis. A male in his fifties with several children and likely some grandchildren. Because I'm a nerd I'm sure I'll end up naming every relative of his, which will undoubtedly include his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, and important friends and associates.

Also, just a suggestion @Viserion, but you might want to include Starting Location or Current Location on your character sheet. It's a big world after all.

We’ll be all starting in Valyria, to make things easier. The Archon will invite loads of people to join his war.

Are the noble Valyrian families referred to as Houses, like House Bolton and House Tarly? And if so, would they have their own unique sigils?

They are called Families, with a capital F. Canonically, Valyrians did not have sigils but I’ll allow it.

If it's not canon then I won't bother with it. I just wondered if the noble families might have something that identifies/differentiates them.

I was thinking something visual that identifies them at a glance. Something to set them apart from other noble Families. For instance, House Lannister soldiers wear red and gold, which announces to everyone who they serve.

I imagine they do have special colors, just not banners.

@Viserion I just stumbled across this passage on the Wiki:
It mentions Valyrian Houses that existed during the Freehold. Are you sure noble families are not referred to as Houses?
