The 40k IP has a sizable fanbase (for good reason), yet I can’t help but feel they created this video game trailer just for me.
Excited for Darktide. I'm a fan of WH40K but I'm not a fan of RTS games so that takes a lot of the Warhammer video games off the table.
Well well well, there is a gaming thread. Don't quite know how I've missed this for so long. But yeah, I like gaming. My favourite game of all time is The Witcher III. It's incredible. I've played through twice, and I reckon I'll have to play one more time when the remastered version is released (and probably after it goes on sale). The games I play the most are probably Europa Universalis IV and Stellaris, because they're comfortable to play while I've got the hockey game on in the background.
I've been predominantly a PC gamer for several years, with the occasional side hustle on my PS4. Since I've been enjoying a period of financial abundance I decided to treat myself to a PS5 and the PSVR 2, plus a bunch of games. I have been pretty curious about this Virtual Reality business ever since I had a one night stand with the Oculus Rift back when that was relatively new. I think Gran Turismo 7 might be the big winner here. I'm not big on racing games and I don't give a damn about cars, but this has been a stellar experience. Pretty unreal levels of immersion. Resident Evil Village in VR really is something else, also. I don't really do Horror games, but damn. This is too cool to let fear stand in the way. Haven't gotten that far yet, but the early, introductory portion is nerve-racking enough. I see tremendous potential in VR and I'm gonna be paying close attention going forward.
I have been on the fence about getting VR. I'm very interested, but it's a new system, so I figured I'd "wait and see." It's bonus + tax refund season though, so if I'm going to treat myself, now's the best time. It's like $800 + tax here. It's sounding like you're enjoying it. Is it well worth it? Good game variety?
For me it was definitely worth it. The novelty factor alone almost justifies the purchase. Besides Gran Turismo I haven't really played any of the other games properly, because some of them cause a bit of motion sickness, and I'm taking it slow until I acclimate. Not such a huge game selection at present, but there's some quality stuff. Resident Evil Village and Horizon Call of the Mountain are both visually spectacular.
Stellaris was too addictive. Favourite part was being able to change classifications of entire conquered species to 'livestock.' I never got the mod DLC that lets you crack planets unfortunately, though. My guilty (as in, I should not be playing games) pleasure right now is 7 Days to Die. Trying out an overhaul mod that makes it a bit better than the vanilla game.
I don't usually do this, but I just pre-ordered The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a week before its release. $89.99. Woof. But I really, really enjoyed Breath of the Wild and very much look forward to more. Usually I wait a few months after release and the games I want tend to go on sale for significant discounts, but when it comes to Nintendo, the prices never seem to drop much at all. Looking forward to playing many hours of Zelda next weekend !
Day 3 of playing Zelda all afternoon has ended. Boy, the time sure flies by when I am out adventuring. I really like it so far; there are some neat new mechanics, and the world is astonishingly enormous. It's going to take me a looong time to explore everything and finish all the puzzles. My only real criticism is that it's a bit too similar to the previous game, Breath of the Wild. Not really a bad thing since I enjoyed that game a lot. Maybe they could've changed the setting a bit more than they did? Anyway, it's been a most enjoyable gaming weekend. It's nice to ignore the writing urges and get lost in others' creations for a bit.
Any other Ace Attorney fans here? I saw one person with a Dahlia Hawthorne pfp a while ago but don’t recall who it was I really love the series and recently finished a play through of Dual Destinies, and I can say with confidence that it’s probably in my top five favorite games along with Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations, Pokémon Ultra Sun, and Miitopia It’s my favorite game series of all time, and part of what made me want to become a criminal prosecutor instead of a defense attorney [I’ve wanted to be a lawyer since I was about nine, but hadn’t decided what kind]
Starfield will release in early access next week on September 1st, full release on September 6th. It really looks like the game of my dreams. You can fly around in space, do combat runs, land and explore planets, fight on ground, board ships, have companions follow you around, and a ton more. You can even design your own spaceship. This game will be amazing, really looking forward to it. Check out a deep dive if you haven't: Anyone else here as excited as I am?
Very much so! A new Bethesda game...in space! It still feels like I'm only halfway through Tears of the Kingdom, so I'll probably snap that one up in a month or two. Sorry, Forbidden West and Valhalla.. down the list you go again :/ This is why I typically buy one game at a time these days - to avoid having a small stack of unplayed games!
I just finished playing the new "Murder on the Orient Express" game. Quite fun. I also play a game of Age of Empires (either 2, 3 or 4) every so often. I'm looking forward to the Elder Scrolls 6 game, although part of me is thinking it could end up like this:
Haha, his face is too normal, too far away, and the entire thing isn't glowing like a lava lamp (early 2000s bloom), so the artist clearly hasn't played ES4!
On the other hand, the scenery is quite obviously Cheydinhal. Note the tree in the background. Stop right there, criminal scum!
I finally finished Tears of the Kingdom. I dragged it out for a good while as part of me didn't want it to end, but I think 310 hours of gameplay is enough. It's such a huge world and there's so much to do and explore, but it hasn't really been challenging for the past 100 hours or so. I've been killing some of the mini-bosses in literally like 10-15 seconds. You pour that many hours into it, and you become an expert of the controls and strategies and stuff. Anyway, great game. I recommend it. It's an all-timer for me, possibly in my top 10, and definitely in my top 20. What's next? I will fire my PS5 back up after a long sleep and install Horizon: Forbidden West.
Been playing a hell of a lot of Helldivers II. It's simple, but honestly just a joy to play. Not a fan of fighting the bots, but it looks like they may be finished soon. A new race or two looks to be on the horizon though. And the bugs are always a treat to incinerate. Could use a good team to drop with though.
I may be 20-odd years behind the times (which is about my average), but I've just been making real in-roads to Knights of the Old Republic at very long last. Crikey, RPGs have moved on, and I'm not sure it's for the better. If I can get over the repetetive corridors, I think me and it are going to get on very well. Some excellent writing so far.
I still think Neverwinter Nights is one of the best RPGs I've played, notwithstanding the not-so-great original campaign, but as Dante Dases said -- crikey, RPGs have come a long way since then. I'm not sure I'd put Neverwinter Nights 2 in the "fine wine" category. =\ Likewise: - Dragon Age: Origins is definitely in the "fine wine" category, in my not-so-humble. I played and replayed it again and again, and every time I find something new. - Dragon Age 2 ... isn't, especially because of the horrible mis-characterization of Justice, and the TERRIBLE ending. - Dragon Age: Inquisition is ... meh. I'm not sure what they were trying to accomplish. Parts of it (e.g. the Fade) are well done, but others ... like trying to hunt a huge landscape for lots-and-lots-of-parts-of-a-key etc... are tedious. Also, the ending (setting up another Dragon Age game) is ... meh. Are there any other good Bioware games I should try? Just wondering.
You see, my preference is for the older games. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, but it just lacked the cutesy charms of the original and completely overegged a certain lustrous-haired baddie. Give me what in 2024 counts as retro, before the technology overruled fun. And Knights of the Old Republic is fun, my ludicrous death count notwithstanding. I blame my own slowness to shift betwen ranged and melee tactics. Or for neglecting the scripts; but perhaps I'm thinking too much of the gambit system from Final Fantasy XII. I could do with the capacity to just heal up without having to worry too much about it. If I'm not completely in charge of an old-style turn-based team, it makes sense to be able to script my team's responses to particular situations. Or maybe I've missed something. I probably have; I've played about 6 hours in 5 months, which puts tutorials some time behind me.
The first Mass Effect is top notch IMO. The confident stride in world-building, characters, villains—amazing. You can skip the rest of the trilogy without missing much, though.
